Board Helps To Guide Joslin’s Mission

BOSTON – Joslin Diabetes Center announced today that Stefany A. Shaheen has joined the board of trustees as a new member.

Joslin's board is made up of dedicated professionals with a wealth of personal and professional experience and a shared commitment to the Joslin’s mission to create healthier communities — one person at a time — through seamless care and ground-breaking science, driven by excellence, innovation and equity.

“I am thrilled to welcome Stefany back to Joslin’s board of trustees,” said Roberta Herman, MD, President, Joslin. “Her passion for advancing diabetes awareness and education has made her a strong advocate for Joslin and the larger diabetes community.”

“Each of our trustees, including Stefany, brings a unique background and set of skills to the Joslin board,” said Martin Pasqualini, Chair, Joslin Board of Trustees. “I look forward to continuing to work with our strong leadership team, alongside our board of trustees members.”

Joslin also thanks outgoing board members Bastiano Sanna, PhD, and Kristin Welo for their service and contributions.

Stefany A. Shaheen

Ms. Shaheen has dedicated herself to making life better for people living with diabetes. Her daughter, Elle, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and has been a Joslin patient since 2007. Ms. Shaheen co-founded Good Measures, a Boston-based health tech company that is revolutionizing the delivery of chronic care management. Ms. Shaheen is the New York Times bestselling author of Elle & Coach: Diabetes, the Fight for My Daughter's Life, and the Dog Who Changed Everything.

Ms. Shaheen previously served on the Portsmouth City Council and was the Chair of the Portsmouth Police Commission. Ms. Shaheen was appointed by President Biden to the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition in March 2023 for a 2-year term.

In 2024, Ms. Shaheen ran the Boston Marathon on Team Joslin, and she previously served on Joslin’s Board of Trustees from 2014 to 2023. Ms. Shaheen lives in Portsmouth, New Hampshire with her husband and their four children.
