Joslin... On the Move!

Transforming to meet the future of diabetes research and care

Joslin Diabetes Relocation

Great institutions are constantly changing and adapting. And that includes us. Joslin is transforming to meet the future of diabetes research and care and the very different modern space requirements to meet those needs. Joslin moved from 81 Bay State Road to the Baker clinic – then to Deaconess Hospital – then to One Joslin Place and our current home. Now, Joslin is on the move again.

  • Beetham Eye Institute relocating January 12, 2026
  • Adult and Pediatric Clinics relocating February 2, 2026

In early 2025, Joslin’s basic science research labs relocated to state-of-the-art space at the Center for Life Sciences. The proximity to Harvard Medical School and the diverse community of research colleagues in the building are a catalyst for innovation and collaboration.

In 2026, our clinics will move into specially designed space on the first and second floors of the Shapiro Building on the East Campus of BIDMC. This location has ready access to an onsite pharmacy, lab and parking and is also connected by an internal walkway to the Center for Life Sciences, reinforcing our intention to remain a vibrant and cohesive Joslin community.

We are excited about what the future will bring. Joslin is indeed on the move – accelerating our efforts in research, prevention and treatment. Our footprint is changing but what will never change is our mission – a world without diabetes and its complications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where will the new clinics be located?

The clinics will move into newly-renovated space in the Carl J. Shapiro Clinical Center building, which is located on the East Campus of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). The building is on the corner of Longwood and Brookline Avenues - located diagonally across the street from Joslin’s current location, with parking options nearby.

The Adult Diabetes Clinic (including Kidney & Hypertension, Patient Education and Behavioral Health) and Pediatrics (including the pediatric playroom, and the adolescent and Young Adult clinics), will be located on the first floor.

The Beetham Eye Institute will be on the second floor of the same building (Shapiro) and a set of elevators and stairs are nearby to easily access the eye clinic. Patients will be able to get their prescriptions filled at the Beth Israel Lahey Health Pharmacy located directly across the Shapiro lobby from the Joslin clinics.

How will I find Joslin’s new locations?

Ambassadors at the Information Desks in the BIDMC Shapiro building lobby as well as BIDMC’s other entrances will be able to direct you if you need assistance. You will also receive clear directions with a map in future patient communications.

How will I know where to go for my appointments during the move period?

Your appointment location will be in your MyBILH Chart portal and you will be reminded during your visits about our new location. We will also be sending reminders as we get closer to the moving dates.

Where will I get my bloodwork done?

The new Joslin Clinic (1st floor Shapiro building at BIDMC) will include laboratory services, which is where you will receive bloodwork.

Where should I park?

Joslin patients will enjoy the benefits of additional parking options at BIDMC. There is a garage under the Shapiro building, which is accessible from Binney Street, just off Longwood Avenue. The Shapiro building also has valet parking service at the Binney Street entrance. Elevators and stairs to the first floor are just inside that entrance.

There are also several nearby garages for your parking convenience.

How do I pay for parking?

You may pay at the valet desk during business hours in the Shapiro first floor lobby near the stairs. You may also use the automatic kiosk across from the valet desk. Be sure to pay for parking before heading to your car. Parking discounts are available when you park in a BIDMC garage for more than two hours. To redeem this discount, visit the Information Desk in any BIDMC lobby upon your departure.

Where is the nearest public transportation?

The MBTA bus and train stops are the same as Joslin and labeled on the BIDMC campus map and printable campus map.

I have someone bringing me to my appointment. Will there be places for them to wait?

Yes. Joslin’s new clinic locations will have waiting rooms. In addition, the Shapiro building lobby is also very spacious and has convenient seating.

Are there places to eat nearby?

Yes. Panera Bread has a location in the lobby of the Shapiro building, just outside Joslin’s new Adult and Pediatric clinic locations and just one floor down from the eye clinic’s new location.

A short walk along an indoor bridge also brings you to BIDMC’s Ullian Café, which has a wide range of dining options and lots of seating. Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks are also located on the East Campus.

Where will I go if I am part of a clinical research study?

There continue to be convenient ways to participate in ground-breaking Joslin research studies. Your study coordinator will be able to meet you at one of our clinics or may provide instructions on where to go for your study visit. Our Clinical Research Center will be located within the BIDMC East Campus – just a five-minute walk from our clinics and also accessible from the main BIDMC entrance (BIDMC East Campus Feldberg building). Clinical research visits for Beetham Eye Institute will be in the eye clinic suite on the second floor of the Shapiro building and certain Pediatric clinical trials will also be on the first floor of the Shapiro building.

Where do I park for a clinical research study?

All of the BIDMC options for parking are available for clinical trial participants. Some studies may also pay for your parking by providing a parking voucher (your study coordinator will have these details).

Besides the clinics, where will the rest of Joslin move to?

Joslin’s Research labs recently moved to The Center for Life Science (CLS) on Blackfan Street. CLS is connected via an indoor bridge to BIDMC’s East Campus. The Joslin administrators will also move to locations close to the clinics.

Why is Joslin moving?

Joslin’s current location will become the site of a future new cancer hospital that is part of a collaboration among BIDMC, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians.
