Modern Lab Space to Advance Breakthrough Discoveries

BOSTON – Joslin Diabetes Center has relocated its research labs to new, modern Class A research space on the 5th floor of the Center for Life Sciences (CLS) at 3 Blackfan Street, Boston. Joslin labs now occupy the entire floor, which was designed to fit Joslin’s specific needs and completely renovated. It features updated collaboration spaces and offices and includes new furnishings and amenities.

“I am excited about marking this milestone for our world-renowned research division,” said Roberta Herman, MD, president of Joslin Diabetes Center. “It will promote collaboration at every level to achieve our mission to prevent, treat and eventually cure diabetes.”

“Joslin’s research has led to the near elimination of blindness due to diabetes, the possibility of a long and healthy life for people with type 1 diabetes and major advances in type 2 diabetes research and other complications related to diabetes,” said George King, MD, chief scientific officer of Joslin Diabetes Center. “Moving to this modern lab space in a research-focused facility will help us accelerate discovery with the continued focus on one day eliminating diabetes.”

For more than a century, Joslin Diabetes Center has led the way in critical breakthroughs in the treatment of all forms of diabetes and its complications. Joslin researchers first established the connection between insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes. The Joslin team is now researching how to protect beta cells from autoimmune attacks and how to promote beta cell growth. The work led by Joslin has meant longer and healthier lives for those with diabetes.

Joslin has relocated 20 labs and four research cores to the new space. A ribbon cutting event was held in early April to mark the milestone.
