Katie Wentzell, PhD, PNP is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the Pediatric, Adolescent and Young Adult Section as well as an NIH-funded post-doctoral research fellow in the Section on Clinical, Behavioral, and Outcomes Research. Dr. Wentzell earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and English from Colby College and both her Master’s in Nursing and PhD in Nursing from the William F. Connell School of Nursing at Boston College.

Dr. Wentzell been a co-investigator on multiple, multi-center FDA trials for new devices and drugs, published several articles on the use of technology in youth with T1D and received an inaugural Joslin Diabetes Center Clinical Innovation Award to develop a pioneering accessible care model to improve glycemic control in adolescents and young adults with T1D. Recently, her research has focused on diabetes distress in young adults, survey design and validation, as well as the financial burden of diabetes.

Dr. Wentzell provides clinical diabetes care to children, teens and young adults with diabetes at Joslin, with a special interest in young people who are challenged by the emotional work of diabetes. 

Research Interests

Ms. Wentzell's research interests include Diabetes distress; measure design, development, and validation; diabetes technologies; cost of diabetes; emerging adulthood.
