Dr. Jerry Cavallerano is Staff Optometrist and Clinical Investigator, Beetham Eye Institute of Joslin Diabetes Center, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School, and Chief of the Center for Ocular Telehealth, Beetham Eye Institute. Dr. Cavallerano has been involved in diabetic retinopathy clinical research since 1981 and was clinical co-investigator for the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS), Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT), and other national clinical trials. He is currently active in the National Eye Institute sponsored Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network (DRCR.net). Dr. Cavallerano also been actively engaged in ocular telemedicine for over 20 years and conducts clinical and research telemedicine program through the Joslin Vision Network, the telemedicine program of the Beetham Eye Institute.

Research Interests

Research is conducted predominantly as part of the research team of the Beetham Eye Institute. Research activities are concentrated as clinical co-investigator and visual function examiner in National Eye Institute sponsored clinical trials of diabetic retinopathy, studies sponsored by major pharmaceutical companies, and ocular telemedicine.
