Medha Munshi, MD, is the Director of the Joslin Geriatric Diabetes Program and a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She also practices geriatric primary care medicine at Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Center in Boston.
Dr. Munshi is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Endocrinology and Metabolism. Since joining the faculty, Dr. Munshi has developed a unique Geriatric Diabetes Program at the Joslin Diabetes Center. This model of care is an interdisciplinary program, beyond the traditional diabetes programs, that considers clinical, functional and psychosocial barriers faced by older adults before formulating individualized treatment strategies.
The primary focus of Dr. Munshi’s clinical research is to identify challenges faced by older individuals with diabetes, to develop strategies to overcome these barriers, and to improve clinical and functional outcomes, including quality of life. Recently, her research has focused on the use of technology in older adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Dr. Munshi has participated in writing national and international guidelines for managing diabetes in older adults and has co-authored textbooks on the subject. She chaired the committee to author the Joslin Diabetes Center guidelines for the care of older adults with diabetes, and is the founding president of the International Geriatric Diabetes Society. Her latest book is titled Aging Well with Diabetes: A 10-Point Action Plan for Older Adults.
