Jacqueline I. Shahar is a Clinical Exercise Physiologist and Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and has been at the Joslin Diabetes Center for more than 16 years. She provides one-on-one consultation on exercise and diabetes, sports performance and nutrition, weight loss for people with prediabetes, type 1, and type 2 diabetes.
Jacqueline has designed an innovative exercise program for the Joslin Clinic’s medically based diabetes and obesity program, Why WAIT, provides group classes and works with novice and elite athletes. She has written on exercise and diabetes and presented at the JDRF, T1D Exchange, ADA, AADE, and ACSM national and local conferences. Jacqueline is passionate about exercise and physical activity and enjoys making a difference in people’s quality of life. She is originally from Israel and started her career as a Fitness Combat Trainer in the Israeli Defense Forces.
She received her bachelor's degree in Physical Education from the Kibbutzim College of Education in Tel Aviv, Israel, and a Master’s degree in Applied Exercise Science from Springfield College, Springfield MA. During her free time, she concentrates on her own exercise program that includes cycling, weight lifting, functional training, and Vinyasa flow yoga.
