Brain Activation and Balance Study
Diabetic or Alzheimer’s Effects on Brain Activation and Standing Balance
This study seeks to determine the effects of type 2 diabetes mellitus OR Alzheimer's disease on blood flow velocity and levels of oxygen in the brain, and how these changes influence one's balance when standing with and without a secondary task.
This study involves one study visit lasting up to 3.5 hours at Hebrew SeniorLife (1200 Centre Street). Blood flow velocity, oxygenated hemoglobin, postural control/standing balance, heart rate, and blood pressure will be recorded during sitting, standing, and standing while completing secondary tasks. Cognitive and balance assessments will also be conducted.
Monetary compensation for visits. Transportation, if needed and free parking.
