Pediatric Laboratory

A Not-so-Scary Place

No one of any age likes to have blood work done, however it is necessary for someone with diabetes to have their blood drawn at least three to four times a year. Our pediatric lab is kid-friendly. Children sit amongst a game of baseball, painted on the walls. When your child sits down to have blood drawn, it’s in a comfortable chair that’s extra wide so a parent can sit there too. Each time your child sees a pediatric phlebotomist, a technician who draws blood and specializes in young patients. Our supplies are all child-sized. If requested, we offer a topical anesthetic that can numb the area where blood will be drawn. We also have child life specialists available to provide distraction and coping techniques for those with extra anxiety.

The Pediatric Laboratory is located right in the Pediatric and Adolescent Unit of Joslin Clinic, so you don’t have to leave the area to get here. Our hours are the same as the clinic: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
