Why is Joslin Diabetes Center undertaking the largest fundraising campaign in its history?

According to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are more than one million new cases of diabetes per year in the U.S., indicating that we will reach the cases originally predicted for 2025 before 2008. Currently there are 20.8 million Americans with

To curb this growth and to help those already affected by the disease, Joslin must expand its existing programs in research, care and education—the lifeblood of the institution—and launch cutting-edge initiatives that will someday lead us to a cure.

Funding from government sources supports many research and clinical programs, but it is not enough. We rely on additional private funding to ensure that all of our programs and initiatives can successfully meet their goals and the funds raised through this campaign will help us do that.

What is the goal of the campaign?

The goal of the campaign is to raise $100 million for Joslin Diabetes Center. It is a comprehensive campaign, so whether a gift is made in support of research, or an education program, or to attend the Annual High Hopes Gala, every donation counts toward our goal.

What are the priorities of the campaign?

Over the past three years, there has been an extensive effort to define the most important areas for expansion and development of new research, clinical and educational programs.

The goals of The Campaign to Conquer Diabetes in All of its Forms encompass initiatives that address work in type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and complications and are outlined in the two brochures designed especially for the campaign.

Joslin supporters have the option to direct their support to any of these initiatives or to make their gift unrestricted, entrusting the Center to use their gift to meet its most immediate needs.

How much money has been raised to date?

To date, Joslin has surpassed more than half of its campaign goal.

When will the campaign be finished?

The campaign will continue until the $100 million goal has successfully been reached.

Who will benefit from the campaign?

  • Joslin patients whose lives depend on the work by Joslin staff, which is supported and accelerated by these funds
  • The millions of people with diabetes around the world
  • The millions more who are at risk for the disease and may be able to prevent it
  • Future generations
